Community involvement is central to Glen Park Beautiful’s work, and when it is hands-on, it is extra special. Adults and children, excited to participate in the creation of public art, assembled around long tables in front of the Burnside mural. Using clay, chisels, stamps, and other tools, they fashioned tiles for the 69 steps that climb up from the Burnside mural. The event was in the path of the city’s popular Crosstown Trail and many hikers joined to make tiles, too. Tile artists Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher guided everyone in creating hundreds of bubbles, waves and other features for the stairway.
