About Us
Our Story
Glen Park Beautiful is a resident-driven initiative to spark creativity, joy, and connection in San Francisco’s Glen Park neighborhood. Founded in 2025 by three longtime neighborhood residents, Glen Park Beautiful works together with neighbors to bring more public art, performance, and community events to the area.
Its founding builds upon team member Renee Berger’s earlier triumphs: the cherished Burnside mural and tiled steps, the colorful Elk Street mural at the entry to Glen Canyon, and the transformation of dreary utility boxes at the Glen Park BART station into works of art. Most recently, Glen Park Beautiful spearheaded the beautification of the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge. Glen Park Beautiful is currently fiscally sponsored by Independent Arts & Media, a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Our Team
Glen Park Beautiful was started by three longtime residents and hopes to tap into the incredible talents of the Glen Park community to create opportunities. Everyone is welcome to join the fun and be part of what’s next!
Renee Berger
Renee, a resident of Glen Park for more than 30 years, greets every morning by looking out the window and thinking, "OMG, I am so fortunate to live here!" She regularly walks the neighborhood, talking with passersby, listening to ideas, and scouting opportunities for how Glen Park Beautiful can promote art, music, dance and more to strengthen community connections and further foster joy in Glen Park and beyond!
Beth O'Leary
Beth has lived in Glen Park with husband Paul for over 25 years. They raised three boys here and are grateful to call this neighborhood home. She is thrilled to be volunteering alongside her new friends and wonderfully capable and talented co-creators who have been brought together by their shared decision to choose joy.
Libby Reder
An SF native, Libby has lived in Glen Park with her family for a dozen plus years. A long-time appreciator of public art and performance, she loves bringing neighbors together to make and enjoy them. She is delighted and grateful to be able to work in support of the neighborhood that has helped raise her kids and the city that helped raise her.
Press Coverage
“Not trying to blend in, it turns a pass-through into something that pedestrians will stop for and take pride in, and something that will draw a second look from drivers below.”
“The central design element is Islais Creek, a historic waterway that runs through Glen Canyon and once served as the city’s primary water source in the 1800s. A stream of blue tiles flows down the middle of the stairway, echoing the creek’s path, but it’s the intricate tile work — sourced from a mix of community contributions and donations from an iconic business — that really sets the steps apart.”
“Hundreds of tiles with names and personal messages priced at $350 and $500 sold out quickly, and Barr and Crutcher agreed to make more.
”With the genius of ignorance,” Berger said, “we just proceeded.”
Then San Francisco happened.”
