Bench for Bello

Overview

Glen Park Beautiful knew of colorful benches made by the artist/carpenter, Christopher Duderstadt (founder of the Public Bench Project), who saw them as places to dream, meet a friend, or make a new one. For Glen Park, a bench at Bello Cafe seemed a perfect location for people to enjoy their favorite beverage.  Bello’s owners quickly gave a thumbs up and Glen Park Beautiful connected with Christopher, who soon created a beautiful bench.

Artwork

Christopher Duderstadt has built and painted dozens of benches. There are depictions of flowers, animals, and iconic images of San Francisco.  His passion for benches as a means of fostering community led him to create the Public Bench Project. They are free, though a donation to pay for materials is appreciated.  He even provides instructions for making your own bench.

For the Bello bench, Glen Park Beautiful shared photos of the exterior of the cafe where the bench would be located and the interior as well for the artist to have a sense of the context and palette. The completed bench features an array of flowers set against a black background.
